Valli, I have never heard of this program and I appreciate learning about something new. You wrote this very well. Thanks for the info.

Me too, I have never come across with this software. But with your description here, this software sounds interesting, worth looking at it too.

Sounds new to me. Is it the same as cell phone's speech recognition?

I have been trying to use DragonDictate on and off for several years now. I would say that the latest version of Dictate is by far the best. However, I deftly understand many of the problems and frustrations you probably are having with the program right now. Though it is not accurate and as powerful as it needs to be, I still think is useful. These are few of my recommendations for making the best use of the program:

1. Don't have unnecessary programs running on your computer when you're trying to use dictate. In fact, if your computer has been running for several days and the program is typing slow, you probably should restart your computer. I know that is a hassle, but I find it gives a better performance.

2. Learn to use a program using the built-in notepad for Dragon Dictate. Avoid using tech in Microsoft Word. The notepad automatically caches the document and records better what you have to say.

3. The key to dictation is being able to figure out what you want to say before you say it. If you have a difficult time doing that, I would suggest practicing any website called 750words.com. I use the daily writing challenge on that site to gain better competency using DragonDictate. However I must warn you that DragonDictate doesn't always work too well with or in Safari—that at least has been my experience.

Anyway, those are my recommendations (all dictated using Dictate) because I think learning to use the program is worth it if you do a lot of writing or typing on a daily basis. When Dictate performs well it types three times faster and makes less mistakes than I do typing by hand.
